I'm not exactly sure what code red is but I bet H.S.Clark does and I'd wager a bet that he'd know what to do if he heard that. This book was like Code Red was called in the E.R. and everyone ran to action- it was fast, furious, highly suspenseful and full of intense medical goobledegoop that was extremely interesting, even for this right-brained reader. I loved the experience of this book and looked forward to getting to it every night, reading until my Kindle fell on my face and I had to admit it was time to stop reading. Well done, H.S. Clark. Secret Thoughts a medical thriller, is the second book I've read by H.S Clark. Let me tell you he doesn't disappoint. After Dr. Paul Powers's guide and mentor Mr. Z's passes from cyanide poisoning (laced in cold medicine) his widow begs Paul to find whoever did it. Mr. Z wasn't the only one who was poisoned. Was it random? Were the victims preselected?
After being warned by the Seattle police to leave the case alone, he obviously doesn't listen and goes on a wild adventure through Seattle and Colombia to find the serial killer.
The style of writing is great, it sucks you right in. The characters are flawed, like able, and believable. The story is fast paced but not fast enough to lose you. I would recommend this book to everyone.
H.S. Clark’s book, ‘Secret Thoughts’ feels like a cross between Michael Crichton’s ‘The Andromeda Strain’ and William Gibson’s ‘Spook Country’—not entirely in plot, but in the sheer way the book propels you into the thick of white-knuckle suspense, yet, surprisingly, it doesn’t sacrifice depth and emotional gravitas.
‘Secret Thoughts’ is an absolute delight to read—the language crackles with the texture of its setting, with the vibrancy of its painstakingly developed characters, wrapped up in a plot that chugs along at full speed right at the get-go. The book starts out with a seemingly accidental series of deaths—people dying from cold medicine—only it turns out those were not accidents. Worse, the fingers of blame point to Dr. Paul Powers—the only person who’s putting everything on the line just to find the real culprit. And that’s only the beginning, as the thick blanket of intrigue close in on Powers, you will not be able to put the book down.
What’s more, author Clark knows his science and technology—he has an uncanny way of dipping his arm in hard science only to heighten the choke-hold on the reader’s imagination, and emerge from it with a flourish. Let me just suffice it to say that I love ‘Secret Thoughts’ to shreds—this is a rare literary treat that you don’t find everyday on or anywhere else. Those who love the genre will totally dig this. A solid five-star rating for this immensely entertaining book!

Just like H.S. Clark’s other books, this is well written, fun, exciting, and page-turning. Putting this book down would be a herculean task once you start reading it. Be warned, it will suck you in. I would love to see this become a TV series!
Secret Thoughts A Medical Thriller is the first book published in the Dr. Powers Mystery Series. The other book in the series, Immortal Fear, is also a winner. Secret Thoughts is a wild ride along the cutting edge of medical computing. It’s an exploration of just how far digital medicine can go. Dr. Clark’s lovable characters, vivid descriptions, and fast pace make this a great read for both the tech savvy and the technologically challenged.
The main character, anesthesiologist Dr. Paul Powers, becomes ensnarled in a web of product tampering deaths and corporate espionage in Seattle. But soon he becomes the prime suspect, and has to flee to the jungles of Colombia to prove his innocence. He’s aided by his love interest Lin Chang, a brilliant and beautiful computer scientist. There are some amazing and scary medical concepts here that may be coming soon to a hospital near you. If you like Robin Cook, Michael Crichton, Tess Gerritsen, or Patricia Cornwell, you’ll love H.S. Clark.
This is my second H.S. Clark novel, and I can now say I’m a fan for life.
Another fantastic medical thriller that blew my mind.
Paul Powers is such a kickass character. The author does an excellent job with his development. It was a delight to be in his head. Intelligent, focused, driven to uncover the truth, yet he’s not without flaws, which makes him even more relatable.
Something is rotten in Seattle all right, and now Powers’ life is suddenly topsy turvy when he’s inexplicably named as a suspect. “Secret Thoughts” is rife with twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat chomping at your fingernails. It’s thrilling, riveting, and all out entertaining.

I was wondering if I should read Clark's first book after already having read "Immortal Fear", the second book in the Dr. Powers series, and I'm glad I did. While both books are medical thrillers with anesthesiologist Dr. Powers as the main character, they can be read independently without one spoiling the other. Just as "Immortal Fear", "Secret Thoughts" has all the necessary elements of a gripping and captivating thriller, the medical details and insider scenarios that only a real doctor can know and credibly describe, the gripping, well-developed plot and characters with the right mixture of surprising, sometimes "crazy" twists and the logical plausibility that make this thriller a fascinating page-turner. First-class entertainment from the first to the last page.
